How to Naturally Lower PSA Levels

Prostate Specific Antigen or PSA is produced by the prostate gland and found in semen. PSA levels are tested to see if cancer is present. Lower PSA levels are optimal as higher levels may indicate cancer. Levels of PSA can be directly related to diet and exercise and can be lowered naturally.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat a diet low in saturated fats. A diet with less animal fat may decrease PSA levels significantly. If you're not willing to get rid of meat altogether then choose leaner cuts of meat, such as chicken and fish.

    • 2

Reduce your salt intake. Season foods with natural herbs, garlic and onions instead.

    • 3

Reduce your intake of alcoholic beverages. Drink more water. Consume at least six to eight cups of water a day and you may want to stop toward the early evening to avoid having to use the restroom throughout the night.

    • 4

Add tomato sauce to your spaghetti. Lycopene, which is found in tomatoes and is used better by the body when cooked, was found to lower the risk of prostate cancer, according to the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research.

    • 5

Increase your intake of certain herbs such as saw palmetto as this herb is known for its ability to reduce the prostate gland and improve urination, according to the American Cancer Society.

    • 6

Add small amounts of licorice to your diet to reduce cholesterol levels. Lower cholesterol levels may also lower PSA levels.

    • 7

Eat foods high in Selenium. Selenium is found in nuts, plants, rocks, and dirt. According to the American Association for Cancer Research selenium may lower PSA levels. Brazilian nuts, broccoli and garlic have high levels of selenium.

    • 8

Reduce stress levels to help with lowering your PSA levels naturally. Taking up a hobby or doing light exercises such as yoga or Tai Chi could aid in reducing stress levels as well.

    • 9

Control body weight. Exercising on a regular basis can reduce your stress and body weight. Participating in an exercise that you enjoy at least 30 minutes a day will ensure that you stick to your exercise routine.
