How to Create Punch Cards

Used for promotions and give-away specials, punch cards reward consumers for their purchases. If you own a business or simply want to create punch cards for a charitable cause, you only need Microsoft Office and a compatible PC. Punch cards resemble business cards in shape and design. In order to keep the punch cards personalized and legitimate, you will need to purchase a hole punch with a unique design. Companies often use specialized stamps instead of hole punches to ensure that customers stay loyal.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new document in Microsoft Word. From the "File Menu" select "New Document." On the left side of the box that appears, you will notice a section titled "Microsoft Office Online." Select "Business Cards" from this menu and then select "Print Business Cards." Choose a business card, and then select "Download."

    • 2

Arrange the text on the business card. You will need a space on the bottom of the business card for the punch area. Type in all the information relevant to the promotion such as the business name, the promotional give-away and your business contact information. This information needs to take up 2/3 of the business card.

    • 3

Add an image to the business card. Include your logo or an image that represents the promotion on the business card. From the "Insert Tab" select either "Picture" or "Clip Art." After you select "Picture," you will need to locate the image on your computer. Once you select "Clip Art," a box will appear on the right side of your screen. You will be able to search for clip art using key words. From the "Home" tab, you can change the font color, style and size. Try to keep the font size at least 10 points or larger to make the font legible once you print the punch cards.

    • 4

Select the "Insert" tab. Insert a new "Text Box." Make the text box fill up the remaining 1/3 of the business card, and try to leave at least .5 inches of a margin around the text box.

    • 5

Under the "Insert" tab select "Shapes." Choose a shape for the area that you will punch. Use a shape that makes it easy to place a hole punch or stamp such as a large circle. Once you choose a shape you will need to click on the area where you want to place it. Drag the shape until it reaches the appropriate size. When you select the shape, a "format" tab will appear. You can change the color of the shape from this tab.

    • 6

Use your mouse to right-click on the shape. Select "Copy" and then select the area where you want to place another punch. Right-click with your mouse on this open area and select "Paste."

    • 7

Choose "Print" from the "File Menu." Try printing the punch cards on test paper to make sure they meet your approval. If you want professional cards, save the file to a flash drive and take it to your local printing company.
