How to Restore the Quick Action Toolbar

In Windows, the Quick Action toolbar--more correctly known as the Quick Launch toolbar--allows you to launch applications by clicking icons on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen rather than finding them on the Start menu. Depending on the version of Windows that is installed, these applications include commonly used programs such as Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. If you have accidentally disabled the Quick Launch toolbar, restore it by making an adjustment in the properties for the Windows taskbar.

Instructions

  1. Windows 2000 and Prior

    • 1

Right-click an open area of the taskbar.

    • 2

      Hover the mouse over "Toolbars."

    • 3

Click "Quick Launch." If the Quick Launch Toolbar appears on the incorrect side of the taskbar, click the vertical white line immediately to the right of the "Start" button and drag it to the right. The Quick Launch Toolbar will move to the left side of the taskbar.

    Windows XP and Vista

    • 4

Right-click an open area of the taskbar and click "Properties."

    • 5

Place a check in the box labeled "Show Quick Launch."

    • 6

      Click "OK."

Tips & Warnings

  • Windows 7 does not use a Quick Action or Quick Launch toolbar. Rather, the entire taskbar can be used for single-click access to applications. If you have accidentally removed an application shortcut, simply drag its icon to the taskbar and drop it there.
