How to Patch a Leather Chair
There are many benefits to owning leather upholstered chairs. Leather is easy to clean, wears well and fits into almost any decor. The only downside of leather chairs is the potential for rips, tears and scratches. Unlike the leather of 20 years ago, today there are many quality products available to repair and maintain leather couches. - Clean damp cloth
- Leather repair kit
- Scissors
- Leather adhesive
- Leather sand paper
- Leather cleaner
- Leather dye colors
- Leather patch

Purchase a leather repair kit containing leather adhesive, leather patch, sandpaper, leather cleaner and leather dye.

Create a patch for your leather chair using the fabric from the repair kit. Cut a patch that overlaps the hole in your leather chair by at least half an inch.

Prepare the surface of your leather by cleaning the area with the leather cleaner supplied in the repair kit. A cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol can also be used. Wipe area with a clean dry cloth.

Place the leather adhesive around the hole, immediately covering this area with the leather patch. Allow the glue to dry for at least one hour.

Sand down any rough edges and glue spots with the sandpaper from the leather repair kit. Add additional glue and repeat process until the surface is smooth and seamless.

Match a leather color compound from the repair kit to the color of your leather chair. Mix the color thoroughly and apply to the patched area. Blend the color into the leather evenly with a small paintbrush or sponge.

Tips & Warnings
Use a hairdryer to make the leather adhesive tacky prior to placing the patch over the area.
Make sure that the patch is smoothly secured over the hole with no raised edges.
