How to Format a Picture Card to a Cell Phone

Picture cards are commonly referred to MicroSD memory cards when they are used with cell phones. These cards have been implemented for cell phone usage and give users the ability to transport pictures taken with the phone. Pictures can be sent to and from the cell phone--but before anything can be done, the card must be formatted for the cell phone for configuration purposes. Formatting is rather simple-- you can do it all through your computer. With minor configuration, your picture card can be formatted instantly.

Tips & Warnings

  • MicroSD memory cards may also be referred to as Micro Memory Cards (MMC) depending on the brand of your card.

  • If information or pictures are already stored to the memory card, be aware that the formatting process will delete all of these files. Formatting basically does a quick cleanup to prepare the card for use with the cell phone.

  • There are two types of picture cards: one for digital cameras and one for cell phones. Make sure you are using a cell phone picture memory card, and not one for a digital camera. Digital camera picture memory cards cannot be formatted to cell phones, as they differ in size. Cell phone picture cards much smaller and are made specifically for cell phones.
