How to Detect Keystroke Recording Software on a Mac

Installation of keystroke software can be either malicious or protective in nature. Hackers use keystroke software to obtain passwords and private information. Parents and concerned spouses use it to be more aware of what family members are doing. Keystroke software is not as widely available for the Mac as it is for the PC, so it's much easier to detect on a Mac.       Perform a search for Spector, eBlaster, Keylogger,and AceSpy.

      If any of the above programs show up, your computer may well be recording your every keystroke.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should also check each of the USB ports on your Mac and on your keyboard. There is also a small USB device that can be plugged in to record keystrokes.

  • If you live or work with a Macintosh genius, there is also the possibility that he or she has written a program which may be titled something obscure enough you won't find it doing a search.
