How to Change the Default Owner Name for Microsoft Excel


Microsoft Excel offers several options for customizing the application, as well as documents. This can range from display options to the file information that is associated with any spreadsheet that the application creates. There are a number of reasons that a user might want to change this information. This could be because of an individual changing their name due to marriage or a new user taking control of the computer. Fortunately, Microsoft provides a simple way to accomplish this task.

Change owner name in Excel 2007

  • Launch Excel and click on the Windows icon at the top left-hand corner of the screen.

  • Select the "Excel Options" button at the bottom of this window.

  • Click on the "Popular" tab in the left column.

  • Change the "User name" under the "Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office" section at the bottom of the screen.

  • Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have recently taken over someone else's computer, check that the previous user's information is not entered into the user name box. Otherwise, other people will think that this person has created your documents.
