Flexible metal conduit provides the solution when your conduit run requires tight bends that cannot be made with a conduit bender. Flexible conduit comes in sizes from 3/8 inch to 4 inches in diameter, for indoor or outdoor use. You always need to cut flexible conduit for a proper fit. American Electricians' Handbook recommends that you always cut flexible conduit "straight across to ensure a proper fit into the connectors."
Things You'll Need
- Hacksaw with fine blade
- Vise, preferably with slot for cutting
- Small file
Place the conduit in a vise with the slot aligned with the place you want to cut. If you don't have a vise with a slot, you may be able to use a regular vise and cut along one end.
Cut the conduit with a hacksaw.
Use a file to smooth away any burred edges.
Tips & Warnings
- This procedure works with coated or bare metal conduit.
