Remove any existing cover from the dog bed. Place the bed onto a large, heavy piece of paper or medium to lightweight cardboard.
Step2
Trace around the bed with a pencil. Remove the bed.
Step3
Measure the depth of the bed and add this measurement plus 3 to 4 inches all the way around the tracing. Cut out the pattern from the paper.
Step4
Choose a piece of synthetic sheepskin fabric that is at least as large as the paper pattern.
Step5
Lay the paper pattern onto the back of the fabric and trace around the pattern with a fabric marking pen, pencil or marker.
Step6
Cut the fabric along the traced lines.
Step7
Place the dog bed, upside-down, onto the wrong side of the sheepskin fabric. Center the bed on the fabric.
Step8
Bring the fabric edges up and fold them back onto the bed.
Step9
Secure each corner of the cover in the following manner: Bring the corner of the fabric down to the surface of the bed. Next, fold the fabric in from the sides that extend from that same corner.
Step10
Secure each corner with an adjustable sheet strap. The straps attach to the folded-down sides at each corner.
Step11
Remove sheet straps for cleaning.
Tips & Warnings
Look for 37-ounce synthetic sheepskin. This is the weight of many commercially available covers.
Look for suitable fabrics in fabric stores and in shops that sell automobile upholstery supplies and fabrics.
Look for sheet straps in linen and bedding stores.

You can make a sheepskin cover without taking off and replacing the original cover. The sheepskin cover will go over the original cover. Some dogs prefer the coziness of sheepskin. It washes and dries easily too, so it's easy to keep clean.
