By default, Intuit QuickBooks updates automatically with the latest features and security patches using a background update agent. To free up system resources, remove this agent from running as a background process by turning off automatic updates via the Update QuickBooks configurations panel.
Product versions such as QuickBooks Pro Plus, QuickBooks Premier Plus and QuickBooks Accountant Edition for ProAdvisors don't allow you to disable automatic updates. Updates are required to maintain the additional features present in these products.
Open QuickBooks, and then select Update QuickBooks under the Help menu.
Click the Options tab, and then click the radio button labeled No next to Automatic Update. Click Save to apply the changes.
To turn automatic updates back on at a later time, select Yes next to Automatic Update.
Click Close. The QuickBooks updater stops running as a background process starting from the next time you turn on your computer.
On Windows 7, the QuickBooks update agent runs as qbupdate.exe under the Processes tab on the Task Manager applet. On Windows 8 and 8.1, it shows up as QuickBooks Automatic Update under Background Processes. The process stops running automatically after turning off automatic updates. To open the Task Manager, right-click the taskbar, and then select Task Manager.
Stopping automatic updates may leave QuickBooks vulnerable to security or compatibility issues. To update QuickBooks manually, click the **Update Now** tab on the Update QuickBooks configurations panel, select the required updates, and then click **Get Updates**. When automatic updates are turned off, QuickBooks recommends performing manual updates at least once every month.
