How to Customize a Plate With a Photo
Customized photo plates make excellent gifts and are inexpensive to make. The type of plate you choose for your project can range from a large, clear glass platter to an inexpensive clear dining plate. You can determine the look and style of your plate. Once your project is completed, you can use the plate as a serving platter, hang it from a wall, display it on a shelf or use it as a charger plate by placing it underneath a smaller dish.

Instructions

1
Clean your plate to remove any stray debris, dust or oils that may keep the photo from sticking to the surface of the plate.
-
2
Choose a photo to put on your plate, keeping in mind the size of the plate. Stay away from photos with designs that are too large or too small for your plate. If you have access to graphics software and a scanner, scan the image into the software and scale the photo up or down.

-
3
Cut away any parts of the photo you don't wish to transfer to the plate.
-
4
Brush the back of your plate with decoupage glue.
-
5
Apply the photo face down to the back of the plate so the image shows through to the front of the plate. Press the photo to adhere, smoothing out all wrinkles and air bubbles. Allow the glue to dry before continuing.
-
6
Brush the back of the photo with decoupage glue. Allow the glue to dry, then coat with another layer of decoupage glue for extra protection.
-
7
Spray the back of the plate with clear glossy acrylic sealer. Clear acrylic sealer is available in matte and glossy finish. The glossy acrylic sealer will better match the plate's shiny front surface.

Tips & Warnings
Never place your decorative plate in the dishwasher as this will harm the plate. When your plate is dirty or needs a spot cleaning, give the plate a light dusting with a dampened washcloth.
