How to Import KML to Google Maps

Google Earth allows you to view information laid on top of a map of a particular area, such as census information, marketing information and pictures. The type of file used to view this kind of information in Google Earth is called a KML file. If want to view a KML file on a computer that doesn't have Google Earth installed, Google Maps can also process and view KML files. All you need is an Internet connection.

Instructions

  1. Importing KML from a Web Site

      Open one of your Google Maps.

      Click the "Edit" button on the left side of the screen.

      Click the "Import" link. A pop-up box will appear in which you will identify the location of the KML file.

      Paste the URL of the KML file.

      Click "Upload from URL." Your KML file will be uploaded to your map.

      Click "Done" on the left side of the screen to save your map.
