How to Hang Taper Candles
Making your own taper candles is a time-honored tradition that has survived for centuries. Not only can you create long-lasting taper candles, you can customize the candles to your personal style and home decor. Hanging your homemade taper candles to cool after dipping is one of the easiest steps in making candles because the dipping process provides you with two candles connected by the same wick. Once your tapers have cooled, you can leave them hanging until you need to use them, or hang them elsewhere to add to a country or rustic decor.
Things You'll Need
- Craft scissors
- Cotton clothesline
- 2 cup hooks or removable-adhesive hooks
Instructions

-
1
Remove the candle wick from the dipping frame used during the dipping process by carefully lifting it out of the hooks.
-
2
Find a cool, dry place in your home where candles can hang undisturbed by movement or curious pets.

3
Attach a length of cotton clothesline between two walls, testing it for security by tugging it to ensure the weight of your candles will not pull it down. Attach the clothesline to the walls using screw-in metal cup hooks if you plan to make candles regularly. If a one-time project, you may prefer to use sturdy plastic hooks with removable adhesive backing.
-
4
Drape your taper candles over the clothesline by the wick about 1/4-inch apart, to keep them from sticking together, especially if they are still warm after dipping.
-
5
Decorate with cooled hanging tapers by draping them over cabinet knobs, key-pegs and window dressings.
