How to Carry Cruiser Bikes in a Pickup
Due to its large open carrying bay, the pickup truck is the ideal vehicle for transporting awkwardly shaped and sized cargo, such as bicycles, from place to place. For those who have too many bicycles, or bicycles of the wrong type, to fit on a bicycle-carrier, the pickup truck is a great solution, but they must be transported properly, or your bikes may not reach their destination intact. Get your cruiser bikes to the group ride safely by learning how to pack them in the back of your pickup truck.

Lower the rear hatch of your pickup truck to make it easier to load and unload bikes into the bed. Set each bicycle on its kickstand near the truck, so that they will not fall over while you work.

Loosen the handlebar stem of the first bicycle using a hex or combination wrench (depending on the style stem your bike uses) and mark the stem with a pencil or marker to be sure you know where to set it later.

Turn the handlebars of the first bicycle to the right, until they are parallel to the front wheel. Pick up the bicycle and lay it flat in the bed of the pickup truck drive-side up, so as not to damage the running parts.

Loosen the stem of the second bicycle, turn the handlebars to the right side, mark the stem, and lay the bike softly on top of the first facing the opposite direction. For example, if the handlebars of the first bicycle are at the front of the bed, lay the second with the handlebars facing the rear. When done correctly, this will keep the important running components of the bike free from harm.

Continue loading bikes in this fashion until they are all in the truck. When you reach your destination, simply pull the bikes out of the bed one by one, realigning and re-tightening the handlebars of each.
