How to Back Up Mozilla Thunderbird Emails

Save

MozBackup is a free utility program that protects your Mozilla Thunderbird emails by backing them up in case you accidentally delete them, your hard drive fails or some other computer disaster occurs. MozBackup saves the information in your Thunderbird profile, along with your messages and settings, in a separate file on your computer. For additional protection, save your backup file to an external server instead of keeping it on your hard drive.

  • Visit Mozbackup.org to download MozBackup.

  • Click the download link and save the file to your desktop.

  • Double-click the file to run the installation wizard, then follow the onscreen instructions to install the program.

  • Double-click the “MozBackup” icon on your desktop to start backing up your Thunderbird emails.

  • Click the “Next” button to begin the process. Select “Backup a profile” and click “Thunderbird” from the list. Click “Next” to continue.

  • Click your Thunderbird profile, and select “Browse” to choose where you want to save your backup file. Click the “Save” button, then click “Next.”

  • Create a password for your backup and click “OK.” Click on everything you wish to back up, including emails, contacts and bookmarks. Click “Next.”

  • Click “Close” to exit the program once the backup is complete. Back up your emails regularly to keep your backup file up to date.
