How to Edit PDF Files in Ubuntu

A PDF (Portable Document Format) file contains text, fonts and graphics in a fixed format. This format is not meant to be edited without special software. There are multiple PDF viewers available for the Linux operating system, but they only allow you to view the document, not edit it. The PDFedit program can be used to edit PDF documents on Ubuntu and other Linux distributions regardless of the software used to create the document.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install the PDFedit application using the Synaptic Package Manager.

    • 2

Open PDFedit. It will be found under the "Graphics" sub-menu of the main "Applications" menu.

    • 3

Press the "F3" key on your keyboard to open a PDF document.

    • 4

Press "Select Text" in the third toolbar from the top.

    • 5

Use your mouse to highlight the text you want to edit from the document window.

    • 6

Click "Parameter 0" in the upper window on the right side of the screen.

    • 7

Edit the text in the "Parameter 0" text box in the lower right side of the screen.

    • 8

Right-click on the text you modified and choose "Select All."

    • 9

Right-click on the text a second time and choose "Copy."

    • 10

Left-click on the highlighted text in the document window to change the text.

    • 11

Press the "F2" key on your keyboard to save the modified document.
