A deleted email can easily be restored thanks to data recovery software, which searches your computer’s temporary files for recently deleted files. When an email is deleted it is simply removed from your directory, yet remains on the computer as a temporary file that is eventually written over by different programs and files. Data recovery software can be purchased online or at local computer software retail stores.

      Download the software. Go to prosofteng.com and click the “Downloads” tab of the Data Rescue 3 software. Click the “Demo” button. Type in your email address and click the “Get Download URL” button to proceed.

      Open your email client, and open the email from Prosoft. Click the link provided in the email to begin downloading the data recovery software.

      For PCs, save the file to your desktop and double-click the file to run the installation program. For Macs, drag the “Data Rescue 3” icon to your “Applications” folder to install the program.

      Run the program. Click the “Demo” button to bypass the registration screen, and click the “Select Drive/Volume” button to continue. Select the hard drive you wish to scan, and click the “Next” button.

      Click the “Deleted Files Scan” button, the third button to the right of the window, and click “Start.”

      Select a temporary hard drive or backup drive to use while the program scans your hard drive, and click the “Open” button.

      Check the box next to “Mail” and click the “Recover” button to restore the data.
