How to Export an iTunes Library to a Windows Media Player

Save

Many users find iTunes to be restrictive. Music files are only allowed to be played through an iPod or through iTunes. Though the iPod is attractive and sleek, there are many other competitive devices that are equally as competent. There are steps you can take to make your music files compatible with other devices; transferring your playlist to Windows Media Player is the first step.

  • Open iTunes and Windows Media Player. Adjust both windows so your cursor can easily navigate both panes.

  • Select the playlist you want to convert in iTunes. Click "Edit" and "Select all."

  • Select Windows Media Player to make it the active window. Click "File" and "Create new playlist."

  • Drag the playlist you selected in iTunes to the new playlist in Windows Media Player.

  • Play the playlist so you can convert the file from .m3u to .wmp. Place your mouse over the bar that says "Now playing" and right-click it.

  • Click "File" and "Save now playing list as." Choose somewhere to save the file, and name your playlist. Then click .wpl and .m3u.
