How to Make a Heavy Sugar Solution

Sugar solutions, also called simple syrup, are made in varying consistencies dependent upon their use. Heavy sugar solutions are typically used to concoct cocktails and fruity iced beverages, thicken frosting for cakes and cookies, preserve fresh fruit or make candied fruits.   • 2 cups cold water
  • 2 cups white or brown sugar
  • Large saucepan

      Combine two cups cold water and two cups white or brown sugar in a large saucepan. Stir well to combine.

      Place the saucepan on the stove over medium-high to high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil.

      Immediately reduce heat to low. Stir constantly for three to five minutes or until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is clear.

      Turn off the stove, but leave the saucepan on the burner. Stir the mixture constantly for another two to three minutes to ensure a thick consistency.

Tips & Warnings
