How to Hook Up an Above Ground Pool Filter

Most swimming pools have a filtration system. The filtration process begins in the pool skimmer, which brings the water into the pool pump. The pool pump then pumps the water through the filter. The filter is responsible for filtering dirt out of the water and pumping it back into the pool. The pool filter is crucial in maintaining clear and balanced water, as it filters out algae, dirt particles and debris. Installing a pool filter takes a few steps and once finished, you will be enjoying beautiful, clean pool water.

Things You'll Need

• Paving stones
• Leveling tool
• Pool hose
• Pool hose clamps
• Flathead screwdriver

Instructions

1. Unplug the pool pump, or turn off the circuit breaker to avoid electrical shock while installing the pool filter.

2. Place the pool filter about 2 feet to the right of the pool pump. Ensure the ground is level, and if needed use paving stones and a leveling tool.

3. Connect the pool filter to the pool pump by using a piece of pool hose. Connect one end of the pool hose to the inlet valve on the pool filter; the other end should be connected to the outlet valve on the pool pump. Use two hose clamps on each end to secure the hose. Tighten the hose clamps using a flathead screwdriver.

4. Use another piece of pool hose to connect the outlet valve on the filter and the return jet located on the sidewall of the pool. Use hose clamps to tighten and secure both ends of the pool hose.

5. Plug the pool pump back in and your pool system is now ready to be used.
