How to Remove All Formatting in a Word 2007 Document

Microsoft Office Word 2007 gives you the opportunity to format your documents several ways. You can bold and underline your text or change the indentation and spacing of your paragraphs. Furthermore, you can add bullets or change the font and size of your text. But if you have too much formatting, your document appears jumbled and can be hard on the eyes. Clearing the formatting may seem daunting if you've considered making the changes manually on each section, but the process is simple and can be done in just a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Word 2007 document. Select the entire document. Position your mouse at the beginning of the document. Right-click your mouse and drag it to the end of the document until all of your text is highlighted. Alternatively, if you're comfortable using shortcuts, hit "Ctrl" and "A" at the same time.

Select the "Home" button. It's located at the top of your document. According to Microsoft Office Online, locate "Font" and click on it. You will see a button that looks like a keyboard key and an eraser. Selecting the button will clear all formatting.

Save your changes. If you are happy with the way your document looks without the formatting, choose the Microsoft icon on the left side of your page, then scroll down to click on the "Save" button. If you don't like how the cleared formatting appears, select the "Undo" icon--the button that looks like an arrow pointing to the left--or hit "Ctrl" and "Z" simultaneously.
