How to Configure Remote Desktop Connection XP Pro
Remote desktop is a protocol by Microsoft that allows you to connect to other computers remotely. Windows XP Professional can accept a remote desktop connection. Remote desktop clients can be found on Windows, Linux and Mac as Windows made the specification of the remote desktop protocol available and free to implement. Configuring remote desktop on a Windows XP computer requires you to activate the remote desktop and allow the incoming connections by adding a firewall exception.

Click on the "Start" menu and go to "Control Panel." In the new window click on "Performance and Maintenance" and then "System."

Click on the "Remote" tab in the new window and check the box next to "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer," then click on the "Select Remote Users" button.

Select the users that will be able to access that computer remotely and click "OK." Click on the "Computer Name" tab and write down the full computer name.

Close the window and go back to the control panel. Click on "Security Center" and then "Windows Firewall." If "Don't allow exceptions" is selected, uncheck the box.

Go to the "Exceptions" tab on the top of the window. Select "Remote Desktop" by checking the box. Click "OK" to allow people to connect to the computer.

On the computer you want to use for remote access, run your remote desktop client and enter the full computer name, then enter your Windows XP Professional credentials to connect to the original computer.
