1
Get regular trims to remove split ends and keep your hair healthy. Schedule your trims every eight to 12 weeks for best results.
-
2
Determine your hair type and buy products accordingly. If you have dry and brittle locks, for example, buy an extra-moisturizing product and try a deep conditioner.

-
3
Avoid using too much of any hair product, including shampoo and conditioner. Be especially careful on anything that you leave-in, as it can weigh hair down and leave it feeling greasy if you use too much.
-
4
Skip the daily shampoo, if possible. Washing strips hair of it's natural oils, causing it to produce more, which means your hair is oilier throughout the day. Try shampooing every other day to protect your hair.
-
5
Minimize heat damage from blow-drying, curling and straightening. They might make your hair look nice right now, but they are bad for it down the line. If you must rely on heat styling, use products designed to shield your hair from damage.
-
6
Take extra precautions in the summer to protect your hair from the sun. Use a deep conditioner once a week to restore moisture. Look for products with a sun-protection factor.
-
7
Don't brush wet hair. Always use a wide-tooth comb. A brush stretches and breaks wet hair strands.
