How to Use QuickBooks With eBay

Save

If you make a lot of sales on eBay, manually recording them in QuickBooks can be a time-consuming and frustrating process--make just one mistake, and your accounts won't balance. Accounting errors can cost you time and money or even get you into trouble. To help with this, eBay has released a free Accounting Assistant that automatically transfers your transaction history from eBay's servers to your records, saving you time and keeping your books in perfect order.

Things You'll Need

  • QuickBooks 2007 or later
  • eBay account
  • Open QuickBooks. Click the "Edit" menu, go to "Preferences," go to "Integrated Applications," and choose "Company Preferences." Uncheck "Don't allow any application to access this company file." This will allow Accounting Assistant to work with your QuickBooks data.

  • Download and install Accounting Assistant from http://pages.ebay.com/accountingassistant/. You'll need to log in with your eBay account.

  • Complete the Accounting Assistant setup wizard. You will need to choose accounts to use for eBay revenue, shipping expenses, PayPal fees and any other eBay features you use. You can also adjust other options depending on your company's needs.

  • Log in to your eBay account in Accounting Assistant and choose "Import from eBay." Your eBay transactions for the last 60 days will now be recorded in QuickBooks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always make a backup of your QuickBooks files before using external tools such as Accounting Assistant.
