How to Replace a Lincoln Door Panel Switch
One of the easier do-it-yourself auto repair projects just about anyone can tackle is replacing a door switch. Whether the switch controls the locks, windows or both, the replacement process should not take you more than half an hour. Before you start taking your door apart, however, make sure you have the proper replacement switch for your Lincoln's year and model. In newer models, it is best to have the Lincoln at the parts department when your purchase the new switch, just in case there are trim package specifics the counter person will need to know.
Things You'll Need
- Flathead pocket screwdriver
- Philips screwdriver (optional)
- Socket set (optional)
- Trim cleaner and rag
Instructions

1
Remove the trim bezel around the switch with the pocket screwdriver. In some models this bezel may be nothing more than a ¼-inch wide frame that surrounds the switch; in others it is the larger piece of trim where the switch is mounted. If your Lincoln's switch is mounted into the larger style bezel, skip to step three.
-
2
Remove the fastener(s) that hold the switch in place. In older models this will either be a Philips head screw or a small bolt with a 6 or 8mm head.
-
-
3
Pull the switch up and out of the door, being careful not to damage the wiring harness in the process.
-
4
Remove the wiring harness from the switch by pushing the retaining tabs inward towards the switch.
-
5
Pull the switch away from the wiring harness connector and set it aside.
-
6
Remove the new switch from the packaging and plug it in to the wiring harness, making sure to align the connector properly so you do not bend a pin in the connector. Test the switch once you have plugged it in, to make sure it operates the window, lock, or both.
If you have the newer style, where the bezel is the larger variety, put the switch back into the bezel first, then skip to step eight.
-
7
Put the switch into position and reinstall the fastener(s) that held the old one in place.
-
8
Reinstall the bezel.
-
9
Use the trim cleaner and rag to clean the area.
