How to Create a Special Card for My Parents
No matter what the occasion, when you are giving your parents a card, you'll want to make it special and personal. Cards that come from the heart are something that parents will save and treasure their entire lives. 1
Decide on the keepsake you wish to add to your card. If it's a verse, print it out on a small square of paper. If it's a photo, resize it as necessary at a photo printing center and print a wallet-sized copy. A lock of hair should be affixed to a piece of card stock with some tack glue. Cut two squares of acetate a 1/4 inch larger than your keepsake and sandwich the keepsake between the two squares. Tape the edges of the acetate together so the item will remain inside.

2
Measure and cut a piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil approximately 3 inches wider and taller than your keepsake. Place your keepsake on top of the foil on the dull side. Center it and trace around it lightly with a soft pencil. Remove the keepsake and, using a ruler, trace another identical shape inside the first one about 1/8 inch smaller than the original. Remove the smaller inner shape.

3
Trace designs onto the foil lightly with the dull pencil. If you like, you can use stencils. When you are satisfied with the designs on your foils, place it dull-side up onto a piece of craft foam. Gently trace over the designs with a stylus to make an imprint. Don't pierce the foil.

4
Take a piece of card stock or lightweight cardboard and cut it to the same size as the foil. Lay the keepsake on the cardstock, then place the foil over it like a frame. Glue the keepsake and the foil onto the cardstock. Glue a string of bead trim, lace, ribbon or pleated fabric around the edge of the foil, if desired, to further embellish it. Set the framed keepsake element aside.

5
Cut a piece of cardstock in the color of your choice, fold it in half, and crease the fold sharply. It should be at least one inch larger on every side than your foil-framed keepsake. Affix the keepsake to the front of the card with removable poster adhesive. This will make it easy to detach for display. Open the card and write your message inside.
