How to Stuff a Sock Monkey Tail
Sock monkeys are one of those toys that have been around seemingly forever, and almost every child wants one sooner or later. If you decide to make a sock monkey for your little one, most of the project will come very easily. One of the trickiest parts of the monkey creation is the tail. Filling that very thin space with even amounts of stuffing without splitting open the seams takes a trick, but the process will go quickly once you learn how to do it.
Things You'll Need
- Sock monkey tail pattern piece
- Sock
- Scissors
- Pins
- Sewing machine

1
Pin the pattern piece onto the sock and cut around the pattern to create the monkey's tail.
-
2
Fold the tail piece in half on the indicated line and pin the halves in place. This will prevent the pieces from shifting while sewing, and will help the tail to be straight after finishing.
-
-
3
Place the pinned tail piece on the sewing machine and sew along the indicated seam line. Make sure to back stitch at the end of the seam that is at the base of the tail, for extra strength.
-
4
Pull off a small amount of stuffing from the bag and set it on the tip of the chopstick. Poke the chopstick into the sewn tail piece and use it to push the stuffing into the end of the tail.
-
5
Pull off another small piece of stuffing and use the chopstick to push the stuffing into the end of the tail. Continue adding stuffing in small bits until the tail is full of stuffing. Using smaller bits of stuffing will help the tail to be smooth and not lumpy.
-
6
Sew the tail onto the back of the stuffed monkey with the needle and thread. Sew about 3/4 of the way around the tail, then use the chopstick to poke some more stuffing into the tail to fill the remaining space and plump up the base of the tail. Finish the tail seam when the tail is filled with stuffing.
