How to Write a Closing Paragraph for a Science Report

Writing up a science report is how you show your teacher what you accomplished and what you learned through your science experiment. The closing paragraph--or conclusion--to that report is important because it states in a clear and concise manner several key things about how successful you were and how much you learned from the experience.

Instructions

1. Keep the conclusion simple and concise. You should have described in detail everything about what you actually did in the body of the report, so stick to analysis in the conclusion. Do not simply review or summarize the experiment or assignment that you did in the final paragraph.

2. State whether or not you proved your hypothesis. Explain how what you did supported (or didn't support) what you stated was your hypothesis or goal for the project.

3. Assess the validity of your experiment. Discuss whether you think it gave reliable results that could be reproduced in another experiment. Explain why you think the results would be the same or different if you attempted the experiment again.

4. Briefly state what you learned if you wish. If you learned things that aren't explicitly stated elsewhere in the report, it may be helpful to outline anything that surprised you or was new to you while carrying out the experiment or assignment.
