How to Get My Child a Modeling Profile

A profile, more commonly called a portfolio, is a set of headshots (photographs) and information regarding your child and his or her career as a model. A modeling profile is built over time and tells potential agents and client who your child is and the type of work he or she has done and is capable of doing. Putting together a modeling profile for your child isn't difficult and can be an essential and effective career tool as your child's career in modeling begins to take hold and blossom.

Consider an online portfolio service for your child. Online portfolios such as New Faces can help introduce your child to model agencies that specialize in getting jobs for children. ModelScouts is another website that helps you get your child in touch with modeling agencies that work with kids.

Have a professional set of headshots taken of your child. A variety of photographs in black and white and in color should be included in a profile for your child. While 8"x10" has always been standard in the modeling industry, don't be afraid to include other sizes. Be sure to include a balanced mix of natural shots as well as posed professional modeling shots. Limit the number of photographs to around six.

Build a resume and keep it updated. List all of the modeling jobs your child has had, with dates, agencies involved, and tear sheets (actual magazine pages) if possible. List any modeling contests your child has won as well.

Write a brief bio for your child that tells a little about who your child is, how long he or she has been modeling, how he or she began his or her modeling career, and any other entertainment-related skills he or she has.
