How to Make Orbs in Photoshop
Photoshop, a graphics design and photo editing computer software program made by Adobe, can be used to make three-dimensional objects like spheres. These graphics can then be used as the basis for a logo, a button for a webpage layout or as the base of a number of different designs like bowling balls, marbles or chrome spheres. Making orbs in Photoshop requires adding blending and layer effects to a circle until a three-dimensional effect is achieved.

1
Create a new File in Photoshop by selecting "New" from the "File" menu. Set the file resolution to 400 pixels by 400 pixels and choose "Transparent" as the background. You can always later add a background color.

2
Click and hold your mouse over the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" until a pop up menu appears. Choose "Elliptical Marquee Tool" from this list. Trace a large circle in your image by holding down the Shift button and clicking and dragging in the blank image.

3
Select the "Paint Bucket" tool and choose the color you would like your orb to be. Click in the circular selection to fill the circle with your color.
-
4
Double-click on the layer with the circle in the layer pane to access the layer blending mode window. Click on "Inner Glow" and set the "Color" to Black and the "Blending Mode" to Multiply. This will give your circle shading that makes it look more orb-like.
-
5
Create a new layer by clicking on the "Create a new layer" button in the layer pane.
-
6
Click and hold your mouse over the "Paint Bucket" tool and select the "Gradient" tool from the pop up menu. Choose "White" for the color on the left of the gradient, and "Transparent" for the right side.
-
7
Click and drag your cursor from the top of the circle inside the selection to the bottom of the circle.
-
8
Open the "Select" menu and choose "Transform" to morph the gradient layer. Click on the bottom of the selection box and drag it upward halfway up the circle. Move the right side of the box to the left a little bit and move the left side of the box to the right a little bit. Drag the top of the box bottom slightly. These manipulations will make the gradient look like a glassy glow over the surface of your orb.
