How to Tow With a Nissan Frontier


Towing a vehicle with a Nissan Frontier is not much different than towing with any other truck or SUV. You will need to have the proper towing straps and a trailer hitch mounted on the rear of your Nissan Frontier with the proper brake wire connection cables. You will need to read the owners manual to find the towing weight limit for you Nissan Frontier. Your Nissan Frontier will not be able to tow extreme weight, and you will damage the engine and the transmission if you attempt to do so.

Things You'll Need

  • Trailer hitch
  • Tow trailer
  • Padlock
  • Connect the towing trailer to the trailer hitch located at the rear of the Nissan Frontier by lowering the trailer arm onto the trailer hitch. Press down on the trailer arm hard until the trailer arm locks into place on the trailer hitch. Insert the padlock into the securing holes on the trailer and lock it.

  • Connect the chains on the trailer to the trailer hitch on the Nissan Frontier by inserting the hooks on the chains into the support holes on the trailer hitch.

  • Connect the brake light cable on the trailer to the brake light connection on the Nissan Frontier's trailer hitch. Indicator lights on the trailer's brake light connector will light up when the connection is complete. Pump the brakes on the Nissan Frontier to make sure that the brake lights on the trailer are working properly.

  • Load your cargo onto the trailer according to the guidelines in the owners manual of the trailer and the owners manual of the Nissan Frontier.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you incorrectly connect the trailer to the Nissan Frontier you will run the risk of damaging the Nissan Frontier, towing trail and your cargo. Attempting to tow more weight then the recommended weight in the owners manual of the Nissan Frontier will also cause serious damage to your Nissan Frontier's drive train, engine and transmission.
