How to Repair a Corrugated Patio Cover
Patio covers provide useful shade during hot summers for the backyard, as it can be a heaven to beat the heat with swimming and outdoor barbecues. - Sander
- Coarse sandpaper
- Wood epoxy or filler
- Paint or sealer
- Corrugated plastic cover (optional)

Sand off damaged areas. Using a sander with coarse sandpaper (30 to 50 grit), sand off the corrugated surface. The wrinkled surface should be smooth and even. Sand off any rotten areas if present. Clean off any debris left over and let the wood dry thoroughly.

Fill in any gaps or holes. Using wood epoxy or wood filler, fill in any holes, splits or gaps in the beam. Wood epoxy comes in two parts, and needs to mixed according to the manufacturer's directions on the back of the package. For more superficial holes or gaps, wood filler can be used. After applying the epoxy and/or filler, smooth out the surface with a putty knife. Let it dry.

Once the fillers have dried, use a sander with medium-coarse sandpaper (60 to 80 grit) to smooth out the edges and surfaces.

Paint over the wooden beam with paint or sealer to protect the surface from future damage. Apply multiple coats.

Use a plastic cover (optional). Place a corrugated plastic cover over the wooden beams. This will provide further protection from rain and water damage to the wooden beams.

If the wooden beams are deeply damaged with rotted wood, replace the beams entirely. Contact a professional contractor for such jobs.
