How to Dust With Powdered Sugar
Confectioner's sugar (also called powdered sugar due to its powdery consistency) is made from granulated sugar. While granulated sugar is ground into powder, a little cornstarch is added to prevent it from caking. Powdered sugar can be used to decorate or dust cakes and other baked goods. Dust the entire baked item with confectioner's sugar, or place a stencil atop the cake, cookie or pastry prior to dusting to create a powdery design. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions
-
-
1
Place the baked item to dust on a wire cake rack atop a cookie sheet. The cookie sheet will catch any over spray of the dusting.
-
2
Lay a stencil on top of the baked item, if you are using a stencil. This step is optional.
-
-
3
Spoon several tablespoons of powdered sugar into a metal strainer.
-
4
Move the metal strainer over the item to dust. Tap gently on the outside of the metal strainer as you move it over the baked item. This will cause powdered sugar to fall from the metal strainer. Continue tapping and moving it over the top of the item until it is dusted to your satisfaction.
-
5
Lift the stencil carefully from the top of the baked item, if one was used.
