Instructions

    • 1

Take a floor tile and lay it on a sheet of corrugated cardboard and trace around it. Cut out the cardboard to size.

    • 2

Set the floor tile on top of the cardboard square and set the two on the floor next to the door jamb to be cut. Mark a pencil line on the door jamb at the height of the surface of the floor tile.

    • 3

Flip the floor tile over so the face of it is against the square of cardboard. Slide the two back against the door jamb. Take a standard wood cutting handsaw and lay the end of it flat on top of the back of the floor tile that's presently facing up. Holding the tile and cardboard in place with one hand, cut through the door jamb with the saw in your other hand, using the tile surface as a guide and following the pencil line to make a horizontal cut through the wood. Pull out the piece of wood just cut off the bottom of the jamb.

Flip the floor tile over, take away the cardboard and slide the tile under the door jamb. The door jamb will be cut slightly higher due to the added thickness of the cardboard. This is to allow for the height of the thinset mortar that the floor tile will be embedded in when it's set.
