The metal latch on a Coleman camper's door is prone to snapping off. But it's simple to replace. The hardware for the latch is available at most Coleman camper dealers and from online sources. The cost is anywhere from $12 to $20.
Things You'll Need
- Latch mechanism for Coleman camper door
- Phillips-head screwdriver
Remove the two small bolts from the broken latch mechanism, using a Phillips-head screwdriver. The bolt heads are on the indoor-side of the door.
Remove the latch mechanism from both sides of the door.
Hold the new parts of the latch mechanism in place on the door with one hand.
Put the bolts back through the indoor side of the latch mechanism, using the other hand. Partially tighten the bolts.
Ensure both sides of the mechanism are in the proper position on both sides of the door, then tighten the bolts.
Tips & Warnings
- Having to use excessive force when opening the door of a Coleman camper can cause the latch to break. To keep the latch operating smoothly, make sure the door is positioned properly in its frame, and make sure the frame is positioned properly between the roof and the camper body. The door and frame can be adjusted with one hand while pushing up on the roof of the camper with the other hand, while standing inside the camper.
