How to Make a 2 or 3 Person Cardboard Transformer Costume
Transformers are large, menacing and bulky--just the thing to be made from cardboard boxes and for more than one person to wear as a costume. You can find most, if not all, of the pieces in your home. Or you might have to make a few small purchases at a craft store. You can even collect the boxes free at a local grocery store. Ask the store's manager.

Creating a Multi-Person Costume
-
1
Cut multiple holes in the top of the largest box for the heads of wearers of the costume, or one large hole for both heads. The torso box should be large enough to fit two to three persons, about 4 feet wide by 4 feet tall, depending on the size of the wearers. Cut holes for arms in the sides and/or back. Paint the box. Metallic shades, black or red would be appropriate.

2
Cut the bottom flaps off the head box. The head box can be shared or you can use individual boxes. For the head piece, be sure the size fits comfortably on your head. The box should be at least 1 foot square for an individual. Cut holes in the front for eyes, or if sharing one head box, cut holes in the front and back.

3
Paint the head box or boxes to coordinate with the rest of the costume. Use a permanent marker or paint to draw in the details of the face. Research through the Transformer films or online to pick out the small details. This will help add authenticity to the costumes.

4
Roll poster board or thin cardboard into tubes that can fit comfortably over all costume participants' appendages for the armor on the legs and arms. Glue or tape the tubes shut and attach to the clothing underneath with tape or Velcro. Paint the outside of the poster board armor to coordinate with the rest of the costume. Don't be afraid to add embellishment like protruding shoulder armor. Merely cut cardboard into the desired shape and glue to the torso box or to the leg and arm armor.

5
Wear black clothing under the costume to avoid taking away from the visual impact of the homemade armor. A shimmery or silver spray paint can add some metallic gleam to the costume. Wear dark-colored shoes. If desired, cut cardboard into a tent shape and attach to the tops of the shoes for further detail embellishment.
