How to Hold Art Competitions

Holding and hosting an art competition takes much effort, but can be accomplished by competing several steps. First you must first choose a sponsor(s) to invest in the prizes and event expenses. You must then circulate information regarding your art competition, invite and confirm artists to participate in your competition, invite and confirm judges to select art to award prizes to, and find a venue to display art. Beyond the above steps, you must also choose a theme for your art competition, outline rules that artists must follow and invite people to view the art on display.

  1. The Plan

    • 1

      Find local sponsors that can invest in your art competition event. You can use the money you receive to invest in prizes that will be awarded to winning artist, event facility rentals, and any invite costs you may inure.

      Find a local venue to hold your art show and decide how long you would like art in your competition to be displayed at the venue.

      Invite and select judges to review each art submission and select winners. You may want to choose expert artists and people very familiar with your art competition's theme.

      Decide how many winners you would like to present prizes to and purchase all prizes.

      Print out informational flyers outlining your art competition details, including the date and time the art viewing will be held, the date and time artists have to enter works of art, any rules and themes your competition may have, the date and time works of art will be judged, the prizes that can be won, the location of the art viewing, and a contact person and address where artists can drop art entries off.

      Once you have received all art entries, arrange each art piece at the venue you selected to hold your art competition.

      Invite your judges to score each art entry and decide which artists win which prizes.

      Circulate art show/viewing invitations to the public containing the dates, times, and location of where your art competition is being held.

      Open your public art viewing and announce the art competition winners towards the end of the viewing
