Choose a program or website with recipe card templates. "Alenka's Printables" offers several designs for both 3x5 and 4x6 cards. Using "Free Printable Recipe Cards" you will need to take a extra few steps if you want to type the recipe online, rather than printing the card and handwriting the recipe.

For customizable templates, such as Alenka's, follow the instructions and choose your card size, then type in the recipe title, ingredients and instructions in the proper fields. Skip to Step 4.

If you choose a regular template, such as Free Printable Recipe Cards, and you want to type the recipe, download the template and move on to Step 3.

    • 3

Highlight the entire template by hitting Control + A, then copy by hitting Control + C. Open a new Word or TextEdit document and hit Control + P to paste. If desired, adjust the template to your liking. Type in the recipe title, ingredients and instructions in the proper fields.

    • 4

Load the card stock paper into your printer. Be sure the size of the stock paper matches the size of your template, generally 3x5 or 4x6.

    • 5

On your computer, go to "File," "Print" and select how many copies you would like. Print them out.

    • 6

If the card stock paper is perforated, tear along the perforated edges. If not, use scissors to cut along the marked lines and separate your recipe cards.

Tips & Warnings

  • To keep your recipes organized and easily identifiable at a glance, choose different colored card stock paper for different types of recipes. For example, print salads on green paper, soups on blue, main dishes on yellow and desserts on red.
