How to Insert a Photo into an Oval Frame in Microsoft Word

Think outside the frame the next time you want to make an impact with your digital images. While most digital images are shot with a regular rectangular format, Microsoft Word's quick fill technique allows you to use one of the items from Word's shapes collection -- such as an oval -- to create a frame for any digital picture. Almost like pouring batter into a shaped pan, your previously rectangular digital image takes on the shape of its selected frame, with no nudging, tweaking or manipulating on your part.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Word. Click the "Insert" tab. Click the "Shapes" button. Click the ellipse shape, which looks like an oval on its side. When the cursor turns into a plus sign, click and drag to draw the oval frame on the Word page.

Click the oval to open the orange "Drawing Tools" tab at the top of the screen. Click the "Shape Fill" menu directly below the tab.

    • 3

Click "Picture." Browse to the photo you want to insert into the oval frame and double-click the file name. The image appears inside the oval.
