How to Use the New Apple Remote App

Remote is an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that enables you to control your computer’s iTunes program. With the application you can browse your music library and play music based on artist, playlist or a Genius mix. You can also play movies, podcasts and TV shows simply by installing the application and syncing it to your computer.

Things You'll Need

  • iPod Touch or iPhone
  • iTunes
  • Wi-Fi connection
  • Turn on Wi-Fi on your device. Tap the “Settings” button on your screen, and tap “Wi-Fi.” Slide your finger across the button so that it reads “On.” Tap the name of your network and enter the network key to gain access. Press the "Home" button to return to the main screen.

  • Tap the “App Store” button on your device, and tap the “Search” button on the screen. Type “Remote” in the search field, and tap the “Search” button in the lower-right corner of the screen.

  • Tap the first search result on your screen and click the “Free” button. Tap the “Install” button and enter your iTunes account password to continue.

  • Press the "Home" button on your device and tap the “Remote” button on the screen. Tap the “Add Library” tab to sync your device to your computer. Go to iTunes on your computer and tap the name of your device under the “Devices” section.

  • Enter the four-digit passcode to sync iTunes with your device. Tap the "Remote" icon on your device's screen and tap the "Playlists" button at the bottom of the screen to access your iTunes playlists. Tap "Search" to look for an artist, song or album.

  • Tap the "Genius" button to select a genre mix and tap the "Play" icon in the middle of the screen to begin the mix.
