How to Mount Cutout Models
Cutout models are paper models, generally printed onto heavy card stock paper that can be cutout from their sheets and assembled using glue. Cutout models have a variety of uses, from tabletop gaming to model railroads and dioramas. Most of these models are strong and long lasting when properly assembled, but require mounting for safe display. Mounting the models on a baseboard is a fairly simple process as long as you proceed with care and use the proper mounting materials.
Things You'll Need

1
Remove the cutout model parts from the card stock sheets. Spray the models with a clear varnish spray to protect the colors if your models are self-printed. To remove the models, use a hobby knife, applied to the marked cutting lines with a gentle pressure to cut through the card stock. Detach the model pieces from the card stock and assemble the models.

2
Assemble the models by folding along the indicated lines in the printed models. Make the folds with the assistance of a straightedge. Place the straightedge along the folding lines, and fold the models against the straightedge for a crisp, straight fold. Glue the model as directed by the included model instructions. Apply the glue from a craft glue stick to the connecting tabs if using preprinted cutouts. If using varnished cutouts, then use cyanoacrylate glue (a form of plastic adhesive, such as Super Glue) to form the connections. Hold the connecting tabs together as the glue sets. Most models created with mounting in mind will come with flat areas on the bottoms or tabs specifically labeled for folding and mounting to your base.

Prepare your base for mounting by painting and decorating it as needed. Leave a flat area at the point where the model is to be mounted, exactly the shape and size of the mounting tabs so that a clean connection can be made between the model and the base. As a base you can use thick cardboard, foam sheets, or wood planks, cut to your desired size.

4
Apply a thin layer of the glue to the mounting tabs or bottom of the model. Make sure to cover the entire surface of the model with the glue, without making the model damp. Place the model onto the base, applying a light pressure throughout the mounting area to provide a solid grip with the glue. Allow the glue to dry completely before moving the base.

Tips & Warnings
If there are no mounting tabs available, you can create mounting tabs by cutting pieces of card stock and forming them into a T-shape. Glue the leg of the T to the model, and the top of the T to the mounting board.
