How to Create Page Edges With Photoshop
There are many versions of paper edges that can be created with Photoshop. Page edges help decrease the amount of background in a photograph, so that the viewer will focus on the main object of the photograph. Another reason to use page edges is so that you can avoid using a mat when you frame the photograph. This tutorial is for burnt page edges.

1
Open your photograph in Photoshop and create another copy of it by clicking "File" and "Save As." Give the photograph a new name, so your original photograph will remain intact.
-
2
Create a Curves Adjustment layer by clicking the "New Adjustment Layer" icon (fourth icon) at the bottom of the Layers palette on the lower right-hand side of the screen.
-
-
3
Select "Curves" from the list of adjustment layers that are available.
-
4
A dialogue box will appear. At the upper-right corner of the grid on the dialogue box is a square. Click on the square, and pull straight down until the "Output" option reads between 10 and 20. Your image will be dark.
-
5
Click on the "Rectangular Marquee Tool" on the left-hand side of the screen and draw a rectangle on your photograph so there is a border around the edges.
-
6
Click on the "Layer Mask" icon (third icon on the Layers palette) to select the Curves adjustment layer.
-
7
Ensure that black is your foreground color on the left-hand side of the screen. If it isn't, click on it to change it from white to black.
-
8
Click "Alt" and "Backspace" to fill the rectangle area you selected earlier. This hides the darkness of the curves layer that made your photograph dark.
-
9
Soften the edges of the border. Go to "Filter" on the menu bar, then "Blur," then "Gaussian Blur." A dialogue box will appear. Drag the slider bar at the bottom of the dialogue box to increase or decrease the amount of blurring. Watch your photograph until you have the blur at the level you want.
