How to Make a Handmade Fabric Card
Make three-dimensional fabric cards with leftover pieces of materials and simple supplies from other craft projects. Children and adults can make themed cards for holidays, birthdays or many other occasions. Keep a craft box handy to collect fabric scraps and embellishments to create cards that reflect a little imagination and creativity, even with little or no artistic ability. It's the thought that counts. This is an excellent project to make as gifts with several cards and envelopes wrapped in a pretty organza ribbon. The crafter should sign his name on the back of the card.

1
Purchase card stock at office supply or craft shops. Cut card stock sheets with a paper cutter to 10 inches long by 7 inches wide. (This is the basis for a 7 inch by 5 inch fabric card.)
-
2
Lay one sheet down on a work table with a plastic table cover for protection. Apply a thin layer of white glue on the blank card.

-
3
Press on the fabric over the white glue and cover the card. If there are any areas where the fabric is not sticking, pick the fabric up and add a little more glue. Then press down and push out any air bubbles that might occur. Let dry.
-
4
Use scissors to cut off any excess fabric that might be extending beyond the card on all sides. Fold the card in half to make a 7 inch by 5 inch card to fit an A-7 size envelope.
-
5
Add embellishments on the front of the card such as buttons, ribbon, charms, appliques, little fake flowers or tiny ornaments with hot glue.

Tips & Warnings
Cut as many card stock sheets as desired for a project at the same time.
Lightweight fabric works best for this project.
Choose themed printed fabrics to make cards for specific occasions.
Fabrics with geometric or non-themed designs can be used for generic purpose cards.
Expired drapery sample books offer small sizes of beautiful textured fabric to this type of project; the books are free for the asking at home decor stores.
Fabric can also be stitched onto the card stock using a sewing machine or ironed on with fusible webbing instead of gluing it on.
Cut out images on the fabric such as flower bouquets or children's toys and glue them on the inside of the card as well.
If a child is participating in this project, only an adult should use the paper cutter.
