How to Remove a Line From a Word Document

Removing unwanted lines from Word documents is simple. Lines can be added to Word documents by using the Drawing tools or through the design template. Regardless of the line's source, as long as you are viewing the document in Page Layout, deleting it is easy.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Microsoft Word
  • View the document's layout by going to "View" in the main menu and selecting "Page Layout."

  • Select the line you wish to delete. When you move the cursor over a line or other layout element, a hand symbol will appear, allowing you to select the line.

  • Hit "Delete" to remove the line.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you accidentally delete a line you want to keep in the document, go to "Edit" in the main menu and select "Undo Typing" to restore it. You can also click on the "Undo" icon on your toolbar.
