How to Regain Deleted Bookmarks

The "Delete" button rarely deletes items forever. Accidentally deleted documents, music or web browser bookmarks are often kept in a Recycle Bin or Trash Can on your desktop or hard drive and can be regained easily either by clicking and dragging the file or selecting "Restore" from the right click menu. However, if you've recently emptied the deleted file folder or backed the system up following deletion, you need to dig a little deeper to recover your files and bookmarks.

Regain Bookmarks in Firefox

  • Launch Firefox.

  • Hold the "Control," "Shift" and "B" keys simultaneously to open the bookmark wizard.

  • Click the "Import & Backup" button.

  • Click "Restore."

  • Choose a date whose settings you'd like to restore to. If you deleted the bookmarks today, choose yesterday.

  • Check the top tool bar to make sure your bookmarks have been restored.

Regain Bookmarks in Internet Explorer

  • Open your Recycle Bin on the desktop by double-clicking on the icon.

  • Find the favorites you'd like to restore. If you haven't emptied the Recycle Bin in a while, there could be many deleted documents in the folder. Open a search box by holding the "Control" and "F" keys simultaneously.

  • Right click each bookmark you'd like to regain. Select "Restore" from the menu next to the cursor.

  • Launch Internet Explorer and click the Favorite Links drop-down menu.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using restoring software, it's wise to save files to a disk. Saving them to your computer may actually write over the file itself, corrupting your bookmark list and leaving your machine prone to viruses.
