How to Delete Search Prompts

Sometimes, when you begin typing letters into a search box, your Web browser will prompt you with things you've already searched for. For privacy reasons, this is not always desirable. You can get rid of your search history using Firefox or Internet Explorer's easy-to-use Form and Search History settings.

Clearing Your History Using Firefox

  • Go to "Tools" and click on "Clear Recent History."

  • Choose "Everything" in the selection box next to "Time Range to Clear." This will clear all the search history stored on your computer.

  • Check the "Form & Search History" box under Details. This means all of the information you've ever entered into a text box will no longer be saved by Firefox. If it's not saved, it can't pop up.

  • Click "Clear Now." If you haven't cleared your History in awhile, this might take a few minutes. Your search history is now deleted, and you will not be prompted with search suggestions any longer.

Clearing Your History Using Internet Explorer

  • Click "Tools" in the top right corner.

  • Click "Delete Browsing History."

  • Click "Delete Forms" next to "Form Data."

  • Click "Yes" to the question, "Are you sure you want to delete previously saved Form Data?" The deleting process might take a few minutes.

  • Click "Close" when you are finished. You will no longer be prompted with search suggestions.
