Instructions

    • 1

Point your browser to NACO.org. This is the National Association of Counties, and from here you can find your county appraiser's site.

    • 2

Hover over the first tab on the left with the heading "about counties". This will drop down a menu with further options for you to choose from.

    • 3

Click "find a county". This will take you to a color-coded map of the United States.

    • 4

Click on the state where the property in question is located. You will then be taken to a page listing all of the counties in that state.

    • 5

Click on the county in which the property in question is located. You'll now be on the county information page. Here you will find census information, courthouse address and the email addresses of important county officials. At the very top of the page, above the courthouse address, you will see a link to the official page of the county you have chosen.

    • 6

Click on the link to the official county page. Once on the official page, site navigation differs between counties. What you are looking for is a link that reads "property appraiser". If by chance you do not find a link to the appraiser's site for the county you are searching, use a search engine such as Google and search "(county): property appraiser" with "county" being the name of the location you are searching.

    • 7

Click the "search records" link. Most county appraisers will use this heading for their online search. However, some search link headings may read "appraisal roll" or "property search". After clicking the link that directs you to the property records, you will be asked to provide information regarding the property.

    • 8

Fill in the property information. Most of the time you can just input the property address and it will be found. However, you can also type in the current owner's last name to find property information.

    • 9

Click "search". Depending on how much information you provided, you may have to choose from a list of properties that match the search info.

    • 10

Click on the appropriate property to view details.

    • 11

Click on the link to the property map. Every property page available through the county appraiser will have a link somewhere on it to the property map. You may have to scroll to the bottom and read the small print. Sometimes, the map will be designated by a simple compass. Clicking on the map link will take you to the page showing lot lines for the property you are searching, as well as surrounding lots.
