How to Rig a Three-Way Swivel for Fishing
Anglers fishing in the surf can frequently experience success by using a three-way swivel and a pyramid sinker to anchor their bait in heavy tides. The heavy pyramid sinker also facilitates longer casts--a benefit that is particularly useful for surf fishing.
Things You'll Need
- Surf fishing outfit (rod, reel, and monofilament line)
- Two monofilament leaders
- Pyramid sinker
- Three-way swivel
- Hook
- Bait

Attach the monofilament line to the first eye of the three-way swivel using an improved clinch knot. See the "Resources" section below for instructions on how to tie an improved clinch knot.
-
2
Attach the first monofilament leader to the second eye of the three-way swivel using another improved clinch knot. The diameter and length of the leader will vary depending of the conditions in which you plan to fish.

Tips & Warnings
Use a lighter leader material for the leader connected to the sinker. If the sinker gets snagged on the bottom, you can break off the sinker without sacrificing the rest of your fishing rig.
Moisten the improved clinch knots with saliva or water prior to pulling them tight. Otherwise, the line or leader can be damaged by the friction created when the knot is tightened.
