How to Transfer an iTunes Library to a Windows Media Player Library

Modern media library programs like Windows Media Player and iTunes have grown to perform far more tasks than simply playing and organizing music. Podcasts, video files and even pictures can be viewed and organized using these programs. Here's how to easily switch from Apple's iTunes to Microsoft's Windows Media Player.

  • Windows Media Player 11 or 12
  • iTunes folder

      Launch Windows Media Player and close anything that opens up aside from the main library window.

      Right-click on "Music" in the sidebar on the left under "Playlists" and select "Manage Music library..." (If you want to add videos, right-click on "Video" instead.)

      Press "Add..."

      Use the file browser to find your iTunes music folder. If you are having trouble locating it, launch iTunes, click on the "Edit" menu, and then click the "Advanced" tab. You'll find the folder under "iTunes Media folder location" near the top.

      Click once to select "iTunes," andthen click "Include Folder." Items from your iTunes library should now begin appearing in Windows Media Player.
