Bumpers on Dodge trucks exist for both appearance and protection. Occasionally, the bumpers will get damaged or bent, requiring replacement. The process is straightforward, requiring few tools and little automotive knowledge.

Front Bumper Removal and Installation

Step 1

Open the truck hood and locate the inside bumper brackets, directly in front of the radiator. Use WD-40 to lubricate the bolts attaching the bumper to the frame bracket. Slide under the car and find the outside bumper brackets, located in front of the truck's front tires. Lubricate the bolt heads with WD-40.

Step 2

Use a 1/2-inch ratchet drive and an appropriate sized socket to remove the bolts from both the inside and outside brackets. Tap the bumper with a hammer to knock it loose from the brackets.

Step 3

Use the hammer to tap the inside and outside brackets straight if they are crooked -- they should be perpendicular to the truck's body. Lift and place the new bumper into position and thread the inside bracket bolts into place with your fingers. Slide under the vehicle and snug the outsider bracket bolts into place with the ratchet. Tighten all the bracket bolts to secure the front bumper into place.

Rear Bumper Removal and Installation

Step 1

Slide under the rear of the vehicle and locate the bumper bracket. Spray the bolt heads and threads with the WD-40. Allow the lubrication the soak on the bolts for approximately 30 minutes.

Step 2

Unhook the license plate light by twisting the bulb connector left 45 degrees. Unscrew the license plate and remove from the old bumper. Remove the bolts from the rear brackets. Use the hammer to tap the bumper if it's stuck in place.

Step 3

Lift and place the bumper into place and thread in the bumper bolts with your hand. Slide under the vehicle and tighten the bolts to secure the bumper into place. Reinstall the license plate and light.
